Collegiate Synchronized SkatingSkaters from all different backgrounds are finding that there's no experience quite like being a member of a collegiate synchronized skating team. Synchronized skating veterans around the country are teaming up with freestyle skaters and ice dancers who are trying this exciting sport for the very first time. College teams generally compete in one of these three U.S. Figure Skating divisions: collegiate, collegiate introductory or senior.
Collegiate synchronized teams are competing in a variety of competitions: qualifying (sectionals & U.S. Championships), nonqualifying U.S. Figure Skating competitions (like Mid-America Championships, Dr. Porter, Cape Cod Classic), and in intercollegiate team figure skating competitions. Teams that compete in the senior division are even eligible to be selected for U.S. Figure Skating's international envelope system!

Synchronized team skating is figure skating's best chance to become a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sport. While it is not recognized by NCAA right now, if the growth in popularity continues to grow on the path its been for the past few years, it is well on the way!
At the 2003 U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships, 17 teams competed in the collegiate division.
